i seen this movie when i was young and really had no opinion,but now that i'm older i see this movie as a simple truth about veitnam and the choas,but i still enjoyed this movie..
I saw the Redux version on HBO, I wasted 3 and 1/2 hours of my life on this movie...
EDIT: I thought it was funny how Robert DuVall and Marlon Brando both got the top two slots as stars even though they only played 10 minutes each...

What the hell is a French family doing in the middle of Vietnam? I know they explained it, but is it realistic?
People die, some crazy stuff happens, but not like a traditional war movie, WAY to drawn and out and at the end, Sheen hacks Brando to death and leaves, END FILM. Not my favorite movie..
A brief history lesson: Prior to WW II Viet Nam, then known as Indo China, was a French Colonial possession. During that war Ho Chi Mihn fought along side British MI6 and American OSS officers to overcome the Japanese. At the end of that war, in one of the most shameful episodes in our military history, the diplomats decided to give France back control of their Colony (nevermind the folks who loved there & fought for their freedom), even freeing some of the Japanese POW's, issuing them side arms and using them as French cops. The Viet Namese resisted, handing France several bad defeats and France called for help from it's Western allies. Guess who responded with "advisors?" Yep, that's right, the good ol' USA. And that's how we got in that war.
Loved it, but what is the opera music that is playing about 43 minutes in? Does not seem to fit the movie. Funny how Martin and Charlie Sheen look so alike. Beautifulo scenery and action scenes.
A film classic. I do not own the movie, but I have all the music that was used in this movie. One man's journey and another man who knows his time here is up. Every time I watch this movie, I am moved.
Had this film released in 69 instead, it would have discouraged so many who went over there. Released in 79 after wars end, it did convey the anti-war sentiment of a society stricken at the outcome of the Vietnam war, and the waste of human life for no good reason. So, not everyone agrees with opinions, but I can agree to disagree that this film is a classic. Deer Hunter is far better as Cambodian war films go! OOPS, another opinion.
This movie was way over the top!! it was an example on how to take a story to its absolute extreme. Great cinematography and directing. The writing was different for its time and the message may have been lost in some of the eccentric scenes. Deer Hunter was a far more entertaining Vietnam War story but this movie needs to be noted for its grander and superioir art qualities.
"Apocalypse Now" is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. The cinematography displayed in this film is unparalleled to any other of it's time. I've witnessed some of the most remarkable cinematic shots through this film. The fierce intensity of the the film griped the viewer throughout. the cast and director executed flawless ability to convey this dark and powerful film.
This is a classic film based on Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness", which is technically a short story but reads like a novel. Conrad wrote sentences as long as paragraphs and paragraphs that lasted pages. Francis Ford Coppola used the theme as a vehicle to express "the horror" of the Viet Nam war as Conrad used his story to describe the same about capitalism on the Amazon river and elsewhere around the planet. One major owner was stripped of his company because of the impact of the story. Anyway a typhoon ruined much of his film and sets so he sorta had to start over. The napalm scene is said to be the largest usage other than in actual war. Great stuff even if it isn't historically accurate. "The Deer Hunter" wasn't quite accurate either (playing Russian roulette as recreation) but both are great films about the Viet Nam war.
Stared At The Screen For 10 Minutes After It Ended. Wtf.
It's one of those movies that change genres midway through. I liked the first half, but the film is way overrated.
It started out as a revolutionary looking Vietnam WAR film and transitioned to a jungle book-esque pile of garbage.

a cinematic delight. A very artistic and dark film ,enthralling even to the last bit. At times i felt as if brought into another world or put back in time to when the events took place , and even become a part of that world,its a very strange but amazing feeling .
one of the best films i have ever seen with martin sheen as an incredible character and the final unveiling of brando was the peak.
i highly recommend but its is not for all .

really,really great movie about life and psychology of man in his strife and struggle.This is an epic commentary on modern warfare-that is, futility and madness.

I mean do you realy think Vietnamese people are tribal like and would listen to a white man. Especially an American. It was a good film but historically inaccurate for the most part.
possibly one of the top 10 greatest movies ever made. I'm so happy to find a movie on megavideo because it actually works for me , I absolutely hate that youko thing ..I've never watched a movie that actually works with youko !! Why ??
the mooviie was based on heart of darkness by joseph conrad and is more deeper and way personal that the movie if you like the movie you will like the book
another all times great classic only one film come close to it platoon it is the hard truth nothing painted here it is so clear how a war effects innocent people and all those young boys have no clue why they are made to fight thousands of miles away and die before realy living at all and their familys sarrow untill they die so any way get back to film needless to say anything because every one should know how good this film is and the sound track is the best of all times in any film ever made watch and see what i mean
