Kathryn makes a bet that her step-brother, Sebastian, won't be able to bed Annette (a virgin, who wants to wait until love). If he loses, Kathryn gets his Jaguar, if he wins, he gets Kathryn.
This is one of my favorite movies. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillipe do such a stellar job making heartlessness and evil look so seductively appealing. The storyline is fun and dramatic, and the ending is not a let down. This is a must see, definitely a classic.

Will always be a favorite of mine. I've seen this almost as many times as I've seen Donnie Darko. This movie (and the 'Buffy' series) really made me fall in love with Sarah Michelle Gellar. She was pitch-perfect as Sebastian's evil step-sister. Although the acting can seem lacking in some parts, I didn't really mind and thought the end result was played very well. The scene where

The Verve's song "Bittersweet Symphony" playing during the end scene. That was just perfection!
one of my favs I consider it a classic beautiful ending much more heart felt then you would think from the first half of the film. The other two are terrible compared to this they're not worthy of the cruel intentions title

Wow, I am surprised I actually enjoyed this movie so much. The likeability of those actors are so bad. Selma Blair is really bad, but the more so, I thought Ryan Phillippe was cute. I didn't expect the end to be this way, but I am glad it ended differently. It's definately one to watch. And did anyone notice just at the beginning something, that was gonna point to something that was happening at the end? If u pay attention, and wonder, u will realise..and yes i agree, this is a romance tragedy movie, but no comedy, and nothing to do with thriller....

Worth watching once. Quite funny but not hilarious. I would recommend it to romance fans rather than thriller or comedy fans. I don't see why this movies genre includes thriller? Drama yes, not thriller.
its really upsetting that he dies at the end, but it's also a good thing that Anette was happy at the end and that the evil sister got what she deserved.
I can honesty say this movie made me think twice about screwing around with ANYBODYS feelings. But thats probably also because im a seventeen year old male with raging hormones lol but still, i learned a valuable lesson watching this. Wish i could say the same about school though ;)
It was a great movie that I had heard alot about. I was happy that there weren't really many sex scenes and that the one that was there really didn't show much. I think that would have made that would have made it a more immature movie. I didn't really like the acting of the guy but thought everything else was incredibly amazing. I think the plot (near the end) was much to predictable but I would/probably will watch it again. A great movie. Dark humor, beautiful people and a captivating plot
I do think that it was a good movie, but I agree with someone that Dangerous Liaisons was a lot better. I watched this movie and thought it was good, but then I watched that one and was blown away. Maybe it was because I liked period pieces or Glenn Close was eerily a lot colder in her character as Mereuil than Sarah Michelle Gellar was. But I'd give this movie a 7/10 because I did like it.
I love this movie. Such a great plot. Ryan Phillipe is great to look at but I think he's kind of dry in everything he does, he was ok in this. Sarah Michelle Gellar normally bores me as well, but she was great here. Selma Blair was so good. She owned her part. If you haven't watched this please do.
