i haven't read the book but i will after watching this movie..the story is just amazing..one of the best stories ever. it was just phenomenal..i loved it!!
Ive been such a fan of the book since I was thirteen, this was a very, very hollywood version of the novel, but I enjoyed it anyways. The movie made you care for Dorian just as in the book and I was truly sad when he passed, but not as affected as by the book. Regardless it was a good watch and of course the talents in this movie were a plus. Collin Firth is an old fave of mine and Ben Barnes is a very sexy and talented new comer =]
i will say the beginning of this movie was very boring and way to many weird sex scenes,, but the second half was quite interesting and got better.. wasnt the best movie i watched but interesting story .. 7/10
Though the concept is a winner, (as was in the orginal- 1940's), this just didn't do it for me. It got muddled & messy in 2 many areas and willy-nilly sex cant cover that up. Guess i like the 1st one best. 2.5/5 Worth a watch when its "gray" & rainy, and cloudy & dark, and u've got time to "kill".
What an unique tale of a old English diabolical drama offering of Mr. Dorian Gray.
I only knew of a version of Mr. D. Gray, well in his age of hundreds of years and counting never the genesis thereof.
We all have a Harry in our lives at least once in our life time. He seduces and woo us to do or become depraved as he. Some of us survive, other are forever scared by this "Training Day" experience. The latter is, we become worldly and street wise in our own hearts and experience, with a strange sense gratitute.
This is one of those hmm.. movies but overall interesting.
Three and half stars.. they should have never kill him here in this way.. terminating a potential franchise of the film.
This was a good movie. I would and will watch it again. Surprise no one mentioned seeing this charter in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

Well i'm actually at the moment watching "dorian gray" and i think the movie is not bad but i find myself forwarding the movie sometimes, and like now i'm here writing a comment with no urge to go for the movie while playing..I think this role would suit perfect jonhy depp with a better production. The homosexual scenes made me disgusted , my rating 5.5/10
I think it was an alright movie. I mean, nothing extraordinary but not a total failure either. The acting seemed a bit off sometimes and some scenes were just jumping in and out of the screen with no transition whatsoever but the atmosphere of the movie was creepy. So I guess they succeeded in some way to show what we needed to see and feel. Besides, even though the movie was short, you could see the evolution in Dorian's caracter. However, there are a lot of unnecessary sex scenes.. 7/10
This film was very slow going, and left me feeling as if I should not have wasted time. Having said that, the #19 Milledrive version was excellent, and it is free to watch, which always makes me really happy! Think most people agree that the book is much better than this remake, but its not bad for a one time watch.
ok one time watch,i wanna read the book now lol. i too feel tnat there was a lot of missing parts, come on now just say u want iternety n ur wish is granted just like that, u said u trade ur soul to the devil, what u thought he wouldnt collect 4-10 i guess looking foward to seeing the original
Excellent remake of old film... but not equal to 5* original 1945 classic "the picture of dorian gray", but don't watch if you have little imagination because all won't be all spelled out for you...

Whoever edited this film should be shot! There were many scenes that just jumped around with no plausible transitions. The whole film felt like a made for tv movie with a slightly bigger budget. It lost much of the novel's subtle appeal and the whole relationship with Sibyl Vane was cut drastically short. Not a very good re-working of the novel.
I totally agree..The relationship with Sibyl was a huge thing to Dorian and his relationship with The painter and seemed tamed in the movie but in the book it was almost..obsessive.The movie didn't do it for me..Loved the book though.
i will have to agree with you,i actually thought a few scenes were missing from the movie as it tried to fast to get to the premis and actually had me thinking i was watching a bad copy.hahaha,it almost felt like i watched the whole thing on fast forward mode. this movie could of and should of being a lot better, but overall i thought it was ok for a mediocre one time watch.but difinately nothing great..2.5/5
Regarding the editing of this film, the storyboard will have been presented to the edit team with the viewpoint of presenting the Directors vision of this film.
The Edit work was in my opinion very well executed as it provided us with a very interesting film to view.
Oscar Wild provided the original idea of Dorian Grey which has been presented in this fine film of the same name.
The director Oliver Parker has presented a lavish British Production which has the perfect balance in both storyline and art form, resulting in a film which is a veritable feast to the mind and the eyes
It was a shoddy film version of a gothic horror masterpiece! There was nothing "lavish" about it if you ask me. The CGI-generated London was poor at best. Sherlock Holmes had a much better recreation of the times than this piece.
Your comment sounds like you're trying too hard to be a film critic. You clearly don't see what everyone else sees. This film is no "veritable feast to the mind and the eyes." The cinematography was lacking, the editing WAS horrific, the pacing, storyline, and some of the acting was just mediocre. This film did not do the novel justice; it's more of a slap in the face to Oscar Wilde, who must be rolling over in his grave right about now.
Geez, just enjoy it, IT'S FREE! You all act as if you payed to watch it!
All in all I think it was well done and well acted. I mean, no movie can include every darned detail of a book without lasting less than 3 hours, they had to compact the stuff the best they could, and I think they did a good job for the budget they had.
And @ koolkat88, the same goes to you, you're also trying too hard to be a film critic. Obviously Sherlock Holmes had more budget, HELLO? It HAD to be good. One has to be OBJECTIVE with one's comments, it is ALL relative to the time they had to make it, the budget, etc. You can't compare it to huge budgeted commercial movies.
I don't try "too hard" at all, if you ask me, but that's your opinion. This film is by no means good. I can't see how ANY of the acting could be considered anything BUT lackluster. And the fact that they had to "compact the stuff the best they could" failed miserably. Did you see how it was edited? It was so choppy! Also, I OBVIOUSLY know Sherlock Holmes had a bigger budget; they had Guy Ritchie at the helm for Christ-sake
I want to read the book now. It was an interesting movie. Creepy at times. A LOT of sex in this but not a bad film overall but as per usual I'm sure the book is much better. 7/10
one time watch needs more storyline everything was to quick nothing on his dad nothing about th scars just nothing just sex and hendosium but i give it a 5/10 for good acting and horror thoughts
It's a good movie. If you are a Ben Barnes fan, it's a must. Definately something different from his usual roles. I haven't read the book, but before watching the movie I already had a sparknotes summary in mind. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie, enjoyed the story, enjoyed the acting and enjoyed the eye candy :P
