Probably one of the very best movies on this site, a soundly professional and authentic presentation. I thought the chap who played the Earl of Leicester was exceptionally good. It's the only film I've seen that actually showed more how the executions were carried out. After they had half-hanged you and cut out your entrails and burnt them in front of you they cut your body into four parts and put a piece in the north, south, east and west of the city. Your head they put on a pole at traitors gate near the tower of London. This method was used until quite late in history. The last hanging was at Marble Arch in London.
Another romanticised version of the life of a woman who doesn't need the embellishment. This was, I admit, one of the better ones, but the true woman and the true life were so far in excess of anything that the script writers can imagine. I will give it five stars and I will add it to my list of movies to watch again and again, but I will continue to research the real life of this remarkable woman.
this is a 5/5 easily. Very very well done movie, strong cast, well writen. If you like this time period and/or the people in it,,this is a movie that is a must watch!
Nice to see a little bit of "Movie gore" finally added into one of these movies on this time period as well. Especially since this was a VERY bloody time in history. Most movies only cover people being shot and/or hung...this one finally brings out a few of the torture methods/killing methods...that were really used.
Fantastic performance by Helen Mirren. I love the story of Queen Elizabeth the first, about how she came to power, chose to rule as unmarried "Virgin" Queen throughout her life, the golden Elizabethan Era in England and how they came to rule the seas. Another movie "Elizabeth" and "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" played by Cate Blanchette (I love her!) is one my favorites as well, which portrays Elizabeth's early stage in the throne whereas in this miniseries, Helen Mirren plays Elizabeth's later years in the throne. I am rating this miniseries 5 stars for Mirren's powerful portrayal of Queen Elizabeth the First.
i never knew that helen mirren was such a good elizabeth. It was a good representation of the elizabethan era, and great costumes. the gorey scenes were oh la la..
Helen Mirren is a wonderful actress and most believable as Queen Elizabeth the 1st. Beautiful scenics shots, extravagant costumes and elaborant gorey scenes. I like it a lot.
