Yeah, personally I think what you wrote in the spoiler was actually the highlight of the entire film.
TAXING is a very good word to describe it.
Sure there are a few gems of wisdom and some truly touching moments but it's so strung out it could have been a trilogy. Plus I have to say Tom Cruise plays the most horrible man in the world..(Second only to his real life personality of course)

..this movie is an endurance test!! towards the end i had to take a break lol..its too much, its too much emotion and sadness and sorrow and life lessons and this chick doing coke and tom cruise telling me how to get into women's pants and this old guy dying and another old guy dying and why the hell are you takin all those pills and this kid can rap and FOR GOD SAKES LET THE KID GO TO THE FRIGGIN' BATHROOM!! its too much dammit, its too much..i will f--g dropkick that dog if it comes near me..
I love the work of Paul Thomas Anderson and this was no let down. It is a modern day classic. The way the stories all interlink and come together is brilliant. Love his style of directing, looks really natural. It is very long though, i can see why alot of people get bored watching it, however i was completely drawn in. Loved this film. 5/5
this was amazing from beginning to end. I was surprised because I couldn't even imagine some of these actors playing the roles they played in this movie.

well, it depends what are you expecting..and what kind of taste level you have. It's not a simple movie. If you rather watch superficial, commercial kind of movies than I can easily understand that this is too complicated to you. You know, this is like in literature..those who read only magazines can never enjoy a Baudelaire or a Joyce :))
This film is exceptional. The characters are some of the best you'll ever find on film; they're complex, layered, and very texture. The characters in this film are "so deep," they're the type you don't find on screen that often. This is another master-work from writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson.
This film is so first-rate that I am a bit lost for words; it is just too intricate to explain, I really enjoyed the way the storyline interlinks, a must see in my opinion.
I didn't really get it..I wasn't even done watching because it was a little bit too much for me. the beginning was great but then..I got bored I have to say.

Dont watch the Veoh version toward the end the sound lags or something, but you cant hear things at the time theyre said, and I dont mean that you see their lips moving and the sound coming out a second later, I mean you dont hear the things said till minutes later and theres a static sound in the background just wanted to warn ya!! ^^
Man, thanks for the advise dude, in my job i knew lots of people who are deaf and that teaches me to read on people`s lips a bit, and thats why it realy disturb me when the audio is only maybe a half second or less different to the movie.
what about vanilla sky? i thought he was good in that or what about minority report or what about the first mission impossible. those were good too, or i think so.
R U CRAZY VANILLA SKY WAS TERRIBLE I BOUGHT IT LIKE AN IDIOT AND HATED IT, IT WAS NOT WORTHY TO BE IN MY COLLECTION OF OVER 2000 MOVIES. HATED VANILLA SKY BUT I MAY WATCH THIS ONE. IT IS ON MY LIST OF MOVIES TO WATCH.

I actualy think Collateral, Eyes Wide Shut or The Firm was also very good. But please, dude, no discussion about Born on Fourth of July, It`s definitely the Best.
