Four Los Angelenos -- a mortician, an ex-con, a suicidal ex-priest, and a stripper -- are brought together on Christmas Eve by a mixture of circumstances.
This is another attempt to make dancers, prostitutes, and potential suicides to all look like victims of society. We all have fears, hopes, anxieties, pain and sadness called the “human condition.” We all make choices that will lead to a certain path and we can all change that path at anytime especially in a country like this. Oppose to the sick that are sick other than what they have caused themselves my heart goes out to them and society should pull together to take care of these people if they can. Just look at the orphaned, hungry, diseased, bloodbath wars people are facing in this world and you don’t want to even watch stories like this. How can you explain a man who secludes him self from society, has no possession, and meditates without almost any food in his body have the most peaceful state of mind and physiology. A lot of peoples “problems” are a sick state of mind and not reality.
2/5 stars for the optimistic, generous, and caring sick guy and the uplifting spirit of Forest Whitaker’s character who came out of depression got closure in order see life in a new light. Ok we get it she is a topless dancer and by Biel’s performance she probably has done porn in her career.
Not necessarily true, she may have just studied dance and her part very well. I liked the class with which she portrayed her part as a mother who does what she needs to!
True. There is this woman that works with actresses before filming starts. Jessica Alba used her for Sin City. She also owns a studio where she conducts workouts
Jessica was hot .. shame she does not dance more in skimy outfits lol .. Ray was awesome, usually a bad guy or cop, his role in this was top notch. Forrest always delivers and this was no exception, he is a talented actor and director
Incadesent you are correct in this vein or one point:
There is a difference between modern or traditional dancing and then the seduction of human trafficing which this young lady was "seduce to do" through the hardship of a cold city life.
The reality is and always will be:
A man will never watch a woman undress herself and see the artistic side of it.
It is the abuse of the mind to get her to do it.
Human trafficing comes in many forms of abuse.. from Sport Illustrated to porn, as long it is not our sister or mother on that stage or forum, there is no problem.
In the arena of Media Publication it is a human condition, in that case sold as art, but it is a man behind the idea.. to spoil the beauty of a woman for his own desire.. to reveal the greatest treasure never to be expose to the world corporately but a reward to a faithful spouse and protector only.
To get to think it her ideal is even better or seduce her to think she has the power to seduce.
In the movie the manager of the strip club, Patrick S. said it best..you're dancing is a $1,000.00 advertising every night, but it is what happen in the back room that matters.
Notice he didn't force her to do it.. he wanted her to do it on her own volition, making the lust more appealing.
A man will always try convince a young girl or a foolish woman to first flash body parts and then do more for his lust of the eyes and desires of his flesh AND it has nothing to do with art.
He will say anything to make her blush or feel appreciated for her beauty, but we all know on some level it is abuse.
As far the other points -- choice is the compass of what we do and fate has a effect on that as well. It is what we do with such circumstances that makes the difference.
It kept my attention throughout the entire film and is rammed with mixed emotions.
A lot of people have different views on this flick, some directly opposing others. So I decided to watch it and make my own mind up. I suggest you do the same ;)
Powder Blue is a borrowed format in the vein of Crash, filled with different stories, whom the occupants are searching for answers amongst the corridors of life. Potential is what this movie had with a seasoned cast it should have been better, had the characters been allowed to develop. The writing was also standard and contained unnatural dialogue much the same issues as The Air I Breathe. However, with Crash everything was that more believable and given time to breathe, which is why it remains the benchmark for films of this nature. In the end, Powder Blue teaches one important lesson, that is life can be cruel but if we take a balanced view when times are hard, eventually we can find the good. A nice drama overall, 8/10.
I went into this movie without a like of expectations. But to my surprise it was a really good. I'm seeing remarkes about the stripper aspect and boo-hoo and what not. But I think the point of this piece is that stipper, ex-con or ex-priest, we as people can struggle with the problems that life may deal us. And yes some may come back from those problems quicker than others,due to religion,family or friends, but we all struggle. It's a shame that people are focusing so strongly on one part of this movie, namely the stipper part, and not looking at it as a whole. All in all,good performances,good story and worth a watch.
I have to give it up to Jessica Beil.. She is a good actress.. Her role as a striper was great.. She now how to pole dance.. That’s Talent.. You really have to have talent to do what this woman do.. Love the movie over all. Great story line .. Love it 5/5..
dark,gritty,intense,sad,i could go on about this movie.the cast was brilliant..great performances all round.the storyline if a little slow at times was genious..the cinematography was excellent.all in all this is a beautifull piece of film.work of art.jessica beil is the perfect chick.10/10
Not extremely bad. But come on. This movie moved at a pace of a snail..intentionally of course..but even still..I regretted watching the whole movie..it's a victim's glorified system. As stated below..one point for whitaker's character..that's it..nothing interesting here. Rental movie for sure. 1/10
