I usually hate remakes, this reminded me why..DUMB.
They took a great horror story and turned it into nothing more than another, usual, special effects cartoon. The good thing about the Amittyville Horror was the STORY, the old one was good b.c it focused on THE STORY..it got you scared with the minimal effects, they added just enough to scare the pants off you. This time, as usual..they messed with the story and added things that were never a part of it. Their focus was the effects and it took everything away from the story..and the effects werent even that good.

I didnt enjoy this film at all, ive seen this kind of thing done before and alot better. It was so over the top, the original story is scary enough without adding so much to it. It felt like it was throwing too much at the viewer in order to get scares. The film didnt go into enough detail about the original crime, which is the most interesting part of the story. Too many clichés and very disappointing. 2/5
According to a wonderful site called snopes.com, the only truth was the DeFeo murders. The rest was an elaborate hoax concocted by the Lutz family to profit from the original story. None of this was real, none of the book or other movies were real. Therefore, this will go in my stupid movies playlist.

No matter how many times i watch this,its still good,and its more scary to think about its based on a true story,the acting is excellent,and it keeps u interested all the way through,i think its a 5/5
I find that this is my favorite installment in the Amityville saga. I have seen this a number of times and although it is not exactly like true events it is entertaining and it keeps the attention. I found that if you want a movie to be like the true events you will be disappointed. Give a watch with an open mind.
They should have made a movie about the Defeo murders. That story was more horrifying and mysterious than anything that George and Kathy Lutz invented over a couple of bottles of wine.
I thought the remake was pretty good. Ryan Reynolds when he is not being a FUNNAY man he is a pretty good actor. But some of his comedic ways still come out in this movie. I wish it could have went into more detailed and talked about the actually Amityville Horror, but I guess that is what wikipedia is for.
Anywho, not that scary, but suspenseful.
P.S. Stagevu is the best movie to watch for picture quality.
yeah right, the house wasnt even right, very bad remake, just trash, read the book, this was soo bad, this was more like the true story mixed with saw and BS.
