A stunning film that includes a good director, Roman Polanski, a good lead, Johnny Depp and a good premise.
After watching this brilliant masterpiece I came to the conclusion that Roman Polanski is one of the best directors in the history of the cinema. The people, who claim that this film sucks probably don't know or don't understand his movies. You don't need tons of computer-generated special effects to make a good movie. The suspenseful storyline will grab you and pull you in, so theres no need for anything over the top and fancy.
Ninth Gate is so creatively made in every technical sense that it will stay in your mind forever. Wonderful music by Wojciech Kilar, outstanding sets especially the castle at the end, nice cast, well done cinematography and well worth the watch in my opinion.
It builds, gathering a bit of momentum and then goes slightly uphill and rolls along slower than a snail on skag then suddenly builds to a crescendo before flopping right on the money shot.
very much NOT a horror flick. tags need to be changed. As for the flick itself, a bit sub-par for me. Dispite the presence of Johnny Depp in the lead role, the movie fails to grab ones attention. 3/5
i enjoyed this film.. reminded me of the da vinci code in a weird way.. i know its not really like it but i know what i mean. love johnny depp and the story was different.. 4/5
without johnnys amazing performance this would be another standard 'da vinci code' type film. it was intriguing and quite captivating all the way through. it ended in the perfect place giving some imagination to the viewer.

I love this movie! Depps acting skills were the usual high standard that you would expect from him. The movie keeps you interested all the way through & is far from a standard run of the mill occult film. Definately worth watching & I would most certainly recommend it.
An extremely interesting and enjoyable film, aided by Depp's great acting.
It was very nicely paced and although I haven't even read the novel, this just felt right; the story wasn't rushed and it keeps your attention throughout.
I loved the ending. Sure, it might not have went out with a bang ..but I'm glad for that. The best way, in my opinion, to deliver a supernatural story is to never reveal too much.
A breath of fresh air and something I would watch again. 4/5 stars.

Good movie, good pace, makes you think and question things. You'll enjoy this intellengently crafted piece of art. There's a meaty storyline there, with a rather interesting background. Most definitely worth your time!
this was a great piece of work done by the only man in the world who could have pulled off the sneakishness that this film offers. good ol' johnny depp!i give this movie a 10/10 for sure. a lot of people didnt understand the end, but it really wasnt that hard to figure out.

if you saw the pages that he had, you would understand that he was the only one that had ALL of the lcf pages when the others did not. there for nothing but death arrived to the ones who had the wrong ones.. however johnny's infatuation with the books prooved to be the sneakyness in him keeping well safe the proper reading materials

I think that this movie is underrated. I cannot believe that it's not regarded as one of the best movies in this genre. Yes the ending was disappointing but that's because you were too consumed with Depp's quest throughout the movie and you wanted some sort of climax but this ending just added some mystery to the movie. Think about it would you rather see some ending with special effects or wonder about the real thing?
Yes, very exciting and thrilling! I recommend that you rent this movie and watch with a girl or boyfriend! It kind of makes a rainy evening without any alcohol. ;) Liked it a lot.
Not even Depp can save this movie. He's the only reason it got a 2- otherwise it'd be 0/5. Watch this if its between this and say, the Blair Witch Project- which is a true 0/5
i enjoyed this movie as a nice change of pace. its not that diff to follow but u pry shud try and pat attention. otherwise, there is no point in watchin.
kinda slow at some parts with a confusing storyline but that just makes u pay attention more and it has a great storyline i think it was really good well worth the watch 5/5
