this was a very original movie, with simply a very good plot, and is really worth the watch. touching of course. i think it takes a lot, to understand transexual people more than ''gays'' because there are involved a lot of more deep feelings.. and maybe it is not well accepted, but, we are in our ways to feel good. i guess. 5/5
It was also an accurate representation of my mother. I wonder why some people live in denial and stick to what they really want to believe, not realizing that by hurting others they are just hurting themselves. And why do fathers come to the realization and acceptance so much faster than mothers??
Well, that's certainly an original story! Not sure if it's quite my thing and I had a lot of mixed feelings about the movie. Felt sorry for the son (it's often the kids that suffer most in these situations I guess) but he seemed to cope ok in the end. So, although I'd give the story about 2/10, I have to say the acting was pretty good throughout and that I would give 10/10. Felicity Huffman is a very good actress to pull that off, but I much prefer her when she's a woman. All in all 7/10 from me.
Great movie, touching, with some really good acting. If you are straight, like in my case, regardless of how much you respect gay or trans-genre people, you will end up twitching and feeling a bit freaked out at least once during the movie.

Beautiful and touching..there's a serious lesson to be learned about perfection in this movie, in that, there isn't any. Which is why

she didn't go back and live happily ever after with the man in New Mexico, and why he didn't become a zoologist. Also why their family was so messed up and their relationship would never be ideal.
Nobody's perfect, even if they can manage to hide their imperfections well.
I watched this to see if anything good would come of it as there are so many good comments posted and a high rating. I found the opposite, too many sick or nude scenes and no lessons learned. Hell of a mother/father figure with a son that will wind up more mixed up than he is now!

Films like this are terrific. No special effects, no plastic happy people. A thought provoking story that makes you feel good. I rate it up along with Shopgirl, Lost in Translation and Waitress. Great acting and strong direction. A must watch in my view.
